E-complaint: Talk to Mumbai cops online

In a new service, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister promises you a token number and a 24 hour call back assurance if you lodge a complaint with the cops online in Mumbai

Sit back. Relax. Switch on the computer. Get online. Log into the state government’s website at www.maharashtra.gov.in. Type in your name, mobile number, email address and type of complaint. You will receive an SMS code to feed into the system which verifies your complaint. You then receive a tracking number. According to a Hindustan Times newspaper source, the police will then ackowledge your complaint within 24 hours, conduct initial investigations and then decide whether it merits an actual FIR report.

Maharashtra State Police gets the honor of being the first state in the country to handle citizen’s complains via a click of a button. And it sounds like, from the Indian Express quoting Home Minister R R Patil, that you will be charged for “the same”.
