A woman riding pillion on a motorcycle was killed after she was crushed by a heavy vehicle at Gavanpada, Vashi Naka, in Chembur. The incident occurred on Tuesday around 7 pm when Alpana Shelke (28) was returning home after tying rakhi on her brother Vidhu Patil, who resides at JJ Wadi in Chembur, the police said.
The driver of the heavy vehicle, Jeev Kadam (30), was nabbed from the spot and has been booked for rash and negligent driving, the police said.
In another accident, a 45-year-old woman riding pillion on a motorcycle was killed after she fell down and was crushed below the front tyre of a dumper. The mishap occurred on Monday on LBS Marg in Kurla (W) around 10.30 pm when the victim, Shamin Khan, was riding pillion with her son Habibulla (20), said the police.
A senior inspector said that the driver, Rahim Shaikh, fled from the spot in fear of getting thrashed by the mob. The next morning, Shaikh surrendered himself before the cops.
