Mankhurd police nabbed a 32-year-old man on Thursday night while he tried to escape after strangling his wife.
Milton Noor Gazi, was booked for murder. “Beat marshals and some locals spotted him near Mankhurd junction at around 11.30 pm, when he tried to escape in an autorickshaw,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dilip Sawant.
Priya alias Zarina Gazi (25), is survived by two children, a six-year-old daughter and a three-year-old son. Milton, a farmer, lived with Priya in West Bengal, before she quarrelled with him, came to Mumbai, and began working in a Mankhurd bar.
Police said, at 11 pm, Milton entered the house where Priya lived with a waiter from the bar where she worked. “The couple fought for around 15 minutes, then there was silence,” said senior inspector Pascal D’souza, adding that the locals saw Milton running down the lane, holding Priya’s son.
