On Wednesday, the division bench of Justice Ranjana Desai and Justice Rajesh Ketkar said there needs to be a strategy to deal with the ever increasing number of cases of missing children. The Bombay high court is planning to conduct a special hearing in this matter. The judges directed the court staff to club all cases that relate to missing children and place them for hearing on May 4.
Chembur couple Mohan and Mohini Nerurkar whose new-born son was kidnapped from the maternity ward of Sion hospital in January this year had filed a petition a before the court. While the BMC has deposited Rs 5 lakh towards compensation for the couple, the court has also formed a committee to frame guidelines for increased security at the hospitals.

- Vote for Change!
- Get Out And Vote!
- Be The Change, Go Vote!
- Remember 30th April!
Realizing sincerely and early that one has to be the CHANGE rather than just asking for one, I have been trying to become an above average citizen by doing my bit for the CHANGE that we are all craving so much for. The dhobi list of things that I have been getting myself into in context with the ELECTIONS 2009, since the past few weeks has been endless…
- Went to “Know Your Candidate” Sessions
- Attended the JAAGO RE Session in Dadar
- Made a full research of the 23/24 candidates of our Mumbai South Constituency. Even went to the level of understanding the kind of Criminal Records that some of our candidates had.
- Added Myself into almost every community related to Chembur on ORKUT , trying to force regular Election News and induce the ”VOTE for a Change” mood into the members!
- Blogged my way into everything that just mentioned the “E” word.
- Preached to friends and relatives about importance of Voting.
as I said … It is a dhobi List .. It is end less!
Captions Log , Star date: 30 04 2009 , 06:00 hours , VOTING DAY:-
Finally!!! The V-Day. It was almost like an endless rush of adrenalin in me. I nearly felt like a proud Indian who was finally going to get to serve his country. Got up at the first ring of my alarm clock ( which has never happened before) , Fresh and equipped with my “VOTERS ID”, I walked out, with pumped up chest, running the list of candidates through my head for final check, before I could press that crucial button on the Ballot Machine, believing that ” My Vote” was the deciding vote for our COUNRTY .
I flashed my “Voters ID” at the Booth Level Officer , almost as if it was a pass conferring, my diplomatic immunity to enter any port of this world, let alone a polling booth outside my society I had lived for life. The bubble burst…”Tumcha Nav Nahin Aahe!!!”. These four words just sucked the life out of me.
NO NAME ON VOTERS LIST ! How is that possible … ” I HAVE A VOTERS ID !!!! ” I frantically searched for my identity in the entire list, both English and Hindi lists, and of other Poll Booths too :) , hoping that it would have been jumbled around or may be I might have been assigned to a different Father/Family or something (Jokes apart …. My Father’s , fathers name, on his list is some weird name having no relation what-so-ever)… I was like “Jason Bourne” trying to find “WHO I WAS , WHERE I WAS” . The tragic ending to my story was that there was NO HOPE for me. I gave up almost after an hour + later …
Completely Embarrassed and Lost. On my walk back home, I was totally deflated, I felt like people were looking through me … I WAS A CIPHER… A NOBODY!!!! (I never wanted to believe, when my wife used to tell me that :) … NOW it is officially proved)
PS. I have a VOTERS ID for sale…!

The 13 buildings of MHADA at New Tilak Nagar fall right in the middle of the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) that is being constructed. Of 260 tenants in these buildings , around 100 have signed the MoU, the rest demand more time to vacate buildings
Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority(MMRDA)has come under criticism from the World Bank over the pace of the construction of SCLR….delay being mainly due to the rehabilitation procedures.
According to MMRDA, of the 260 tenants, around 100 tenants have signed the memorandum of understanding and agreed to vacate the premises. But the remaining tenants are demanding more time.

I have lived in Chedda Nagar for almost 10 years between 1980 to 1990. Though quite young, i can still remember most of the good and bad times that I had then. From my distinctly Weak memory, I can still remember Chedda Nagr being in news for its frequent chain snatching incidents then.
The modus operandi would simply be… spot an aunty or paati, walking by herself … just ride past her on a motorbike… void her off her mangalsutra or anything golden for that matter … not much seems to have changed. Oh yeah! And I quite distinctly remember an incident once when the frustrated thieves turned around threw their priced earning back at the victim, when they found they had only risked snatching a piece of imitation jewelery…

“No clues.” That’s the answer the police officials investigating chain snatching and jewellery thefts cases in Chembur and Tilak Nagar police station give to the victims.
Surendra Menon is angry with the police for not helping him when he went to register a complaint
There have been nearly 24 cases in the past four months in the area where residents have been robbed of their gold jewellery. A rise in chain-snatching and gold jewellery theft in the area, particularly in Chedda Nagar and areas around Diamond Garden over the last three months, is putting the police’s skill to test.
Solving such cases is proving to be a big challenge for them as first-time offenders are said to be involved in many of the incidents. Says a senior police officer from Chembur, “The modus operandi is different in the different cases. However, in all the cases it is the gold jewellery and senior citizens who are being targeted.”…

Did you know that there is a dedicated “Women’s Protection Cell ” operating at Basant Park Police station, offering counselling for couples facing marital disputes for the past six years .
Read full article in Chembur Ghatkopar + by Vibha Singh posted on Friday, April 24, 2009 Women’s cell counsels couples
Excerpts below …
However, most of the residents in the area are unaware of the cell. Says Sunita Kaul, resident of 10th road in Chembur, “We never knew that the police station has a cell like this. In cases of domestic violence, generally people avoid police involvement because of the mental harassment they would have to undergo.”
But the scenario is different at this cell as the complaint is taken by the duty in-charge who summons both the disputing parties and then the police officials hear their problem. Every day on an average they had been receiving eight complaints of marital dispute. Says B G Bote, assistant sub-inspector at Chembur women cell, “Most of these complaints could be sorted out through counselling, instead of resorting to the extreme step of judicial separation. The idea is to build homes and not break them. He said once a complaint was received, the cell offers the necessary counselling to the disputing couples to settle the dispute.”
Currently, even in the areas where the police station is the only recourse for couples, cops having no time or patience to listen to them. The Basant Park Police station receives nearly 15 complaints related to martial disputes but even officials at the police station are unaware of the functioning of the cell, so they register an FIR. “The couple simply has to register a case.

Mumbai Fire Brigade still remembers the fellow firemen, who lost their lives in the massive Bombay Docks explosion on April 14, 1944 . Every year observes a week to spread awareness about their work and celebrate the lives of the fellow fire Comrades, who lots their in the line of duty,
Chembur Fire Brigade, as a part of the annual Fire Brigade Week celebrations, held an impressive show at Tilak Nagar playground in collaboration with Sahyadri Kreeda Mandal, an organisation that conducts welfare activities in Tilak Nagar, including the Tilak Nagar Sarvaganik Ganesh Mahotsav.
The organisers said that the skyline of Tilak Nagar was fast changing. The two-storeyed structures have given way to multi-storeyed towers which entail better fire-fighting systems.
Ashok Satardekar, general secretary of the Sahyadri Kreeda Mandal informed, “The two-day programme consisted of an exhibition which for some reason could not be put up in time. However, fire brigade officials gave lectures to the residents about reducing fire risks by proper use of electrical appliances, etc. They have also parked their education van here which creates awareness about fire fighting, safety measures, first aid, etc.” He added that a large number of residents attended the lectures.

Thats what friends are for! Tarush Agarwal, a friend of Jaskaran Singh Bhullar (20) and Vinamra Soni (21) from Loyola College (Jamshedpur) has created a blog ” They didn’t do it ” to bring to light the other side of the story. He strongly believes and continues to defend and stand by his friends and makes an appeal to everyone , not judge his friends after hearing only the side of story …
In his opening words he says…
“I appeal to everyone who is reading this please care to listen to both sides of the story before you draw a conclusion. Whatever we have heard so far and continue to hear is the girl’s side of the story, her statements, and her allegations. All that we have heard from the Jask (“alias” my best friend) and Vinamra’s side of the story is the police’s version of their statements, not theirs or not their lawyer’s.”and he ends his appeal with …
” On a side note, to all Loyola friends, think about this four eleven tall and ever smiling dude, do you really think he could do this to a woman? I hope your heart says what mine does.”
Tarush Agarwal’s blogs has already attracted a few comments and seems to have started the debate in the right direction.
May both the families, of the girl and those of the accused, get all the strength and support they need to deal with this situation and May justice is served.
